Our Origin

It Started with Proteins in Orbit

When a protein won't behave, the world's biggest drugmakers do something extraordinary — they fly it to space, where microgravity coaxes cleaner crystals and steadier forms than any lab bench can.

So we asked one question

“Can we do thison Earth?”

You can't send every target to orbit. But what microgravity reveals is really information — and information can be predicted. So we built Orbion to work it out on the ground.

The Idea

Structure was the breakthrough. The decision is the bottleneck.

AlphaFold gave the world the shape of almost every protein. But a shape doesn't tell you which mutation will hold, which construct will express, or which of a thousand designs is worth the six figures it costs to make. That answer still lives at the bench — months away, one experiment at a time.

Orbion interprets the sequence — what will fold, what will express, what will hold together — and turns that interpretation into the decision you actually have to make. No wet lab required to know where to look first.

Our purpose is simple: move protein engineering from trial-and-error to deliberate design.

Why It Matters

Membrane proteins are where modern medicine happens — and where it stalls.

They are the hardest proteins to express, stabilize, and study — and the ones the next generation of medicines depends on. Getting them to behave in the lab is slow, expensive, and mostly guesswork. That is the wall we exist to move.

Aniruddh works at the frontier of what protein intelligence can become. He's drawn to the deepest layers of the problem — from generative AI to the quantum and physics questions most of the field hasn't reached yet — and pushes Orbion toward research others still consider too early. That reach is paired with an insistence on rigor: he holds the work to a single conviction — that a protein's behavior can be read before it's ever made.

Structural biologist with a PhD from the Max Delbrück Center and postgraduate training in biochemistry at Oxford. A DAAD scholar at Freie Universität Berlin and a Zia Fellow, she is an expert in X-ray crystallography — and holds every Orbion prediction to the standard of the experimental literature.
